22/06/10. Moel Hebog Fell Race.
Ifan Richards continued his winning form at Beddgelert on Saturday coming home first in the Moel Hebog Race. He reached the summit first with a 35 second gap over
the chasing group but a strong descent through the roughest terrain he's encountered to date, he took overall victory with a margin of over 3 minutes to cross
the line in a time 00:49:16.
13/10/06. Ifan selected for Welsh Team.
Ifan Richards has been selected to run for Wales in the Snowdon International Race on July 24th!!!.
Newtown Carnival 5k.
Ifan won the Newtown Carnival 5k on Saturday in a time of 17mins 19secs, he was followed home by Malcolm Taylor in a time of 28mins 20secs coming second
in the 65 category.
Heledd Richards (Ifan's daughter) tackled the 1 mile course in a time of 0:10:21 and claimed 3rd in the under 6 category!
10/06/10. Park Hall 5k, Oswestry.
Malcolm Taylor represented the club at the Park Hall 5k at Oswestry on Wednesday, finishing in 28m20secs.
06/06/10. Abersoch 10k.
Two club members ran in Saturday's Abersoch 10k.
Kevin Jones finished in an excellent 8th overall position, setting a new club age-group record of 37m 33 secs, Graeme Stringer followed him home in 44m 20secs.
30/05/10. Ras y Gader.
Excellent performances were put in by club members in some very iffy weather.
14 members completed the race, which in itself is a record. Ifan Richards was second overall in a new club record time of 01:31:09, followed by Tom Roberts
in 01:40:04 and Adam Preston in 01:43:30. Tom and Adam also broke the previous club record. Dave Whittey set a new over 50's club record of 01:49:49.
Tony Hodgson was the first over-60 home and set a new over 60's club record of 01:52:02.

Rhyl Sun Centre 5k.
Five members of the club took part in the Sun Centre 5k.
First club runner home was Tom Roberts in a time of 17:30, second was Kevin Jones in a time of 18:01, just four seconds behind Kevin was Alex Lanz
in 18:05. Barrie Jackson was next in 25:40 with the final runner for Meirionnydd and making his debut for the club was Malcolm Taylor in a time of 28:17.
This race was the North Wales 5K championship. Alex, Tom, Kevin and Malcolm all finished third in their age groups. Barrie was fourth in his age group.
Kevin, Barrie and Malcolm all set new club age-group records.
Well done to all the club runners.

23/05/10. British Intercounties Fell Running Championships.
The hottest day of the year greeted the 255 athletes to today's race. Attracting the elite from English, Scottish and Welsh counties the competiton was of a very
high level.
The event was 9.6 miles with a tough 3276ft of ascent with a race start temperature recorded at 28 degrees celcius.
Ifan Richards crossed the line battling severe right calf cramp in 66th position in a good time for the distance in 1:32:40.
North Wales claimed top 3 out of all the UK counties. Ifan also kept his lead in the WFRA North Wales series.
18/05/10. Moel Eilio.
Four Meirionnydd athletes travelled to Llanberis for the classic Moel Eilio fell race. Measuring at 8 miles and 3200ft of ascent. Weather conditions were
excellent and a light breeze to cool everyone down after a beast of a first climb.
First for Meirionnydd was Ifan Richards claiming yet another impressive 2nd overall out of the 75 starters completing the course in a time of 1:09:12.
Second in for Meirionnydd in 40th and claiming a excellent victory in the F40 category was Andrea Vaughan in a time of 1:32:42.
Claiming 2nd in the F40 category with a strong run was Juliet Edwards in 52nd with a time of 1:38:20 just winning the battle of the doctors by 9 seconds
as Nick Bradley followed in 53rd in a time of 1:38:29.
Chester half-marathon.
Congratulations to Gaenor Smith for setting a 1/2 Marathon club record for senior ladies with 1hr 54mins 38secs and to Chris Owen for completing
in 2hrs 28mins 13secs.
13/05/10. Moel y Gest , tuesday night series.
70 runners turned up for the 5th round of the very popular tuesday evening north wales fell race series. The venue was Moel Y Gest at Porthmadog, a classic course
of 4 miles and 1200ft.
First over the line for Meirionnydd was Ifan Richards in 2nd place in a time of 00:31:12 knocking 5 minutes off his time for last year. Next was Hefin Jones
crossing 11th in 00:35:41, Dave Whittey followed in 22nd in 00:37:24. Graeme Stringer was next in 34th in 00:41:16, Ashley Charlwood followed in 48th in 00:43:56.
Nich Bradley finished in 68th but unfortunately he was one of 5 runners who missed part of the course.
Newtown 10k.
Two club members took part in the Newtown 10k Road Race on 2nd May. First home was Ricky Francis in a time of 42.38mins. He was followed by Graeme Stringer
in a time of 44.36mins.
02/05/10. Red Kite Challenge.
The U.K and Welsh trail running championships held at Nant y Arian Forest trail centre.
In the juniors race Alex Lanz ran an excellent race to take the gold medal as Welsh trail running Champion at U17 level, an excellent display of
his growing talent.
In the senior race 124 athletes battled it out for U.K and Welsh honours over the 11.2 mile course with 2530ft of ascent.
It was indeed the Welsh Athletes that dominated the event taking the top 6 places. The race was won in a very impressive and new course record time by
Tim Davies of Maldwyn Harriers in 1:10:55 showing his growing domination in trail and fell running.
First for Meirionnydd in a excellent 6th overall was Ifan Richards, covering the course in a time of 1:17:28.
Tom Roberts was next for Meirionnydd with a strong performance over the distance in time of 1:23:20 to cross the line in 21st position.
John D Smith was next for Meirionnydd, after a break from racing, ran in 89th position in a time of 1:47:52 claiming Welsh Champs Gold in the M60 category.
Last for Meirionnydd it was good to see Victor Gretton coming home in a time of 2:15:32 in a great effort.

Adam Preston 3hrs 8mins 55secs. A new club record and winning Tony's challenge prize!
Tony Hodgson 3 hrs 16mins 48secs. A new age group record.
Jan Preston 4hrs 29mins 16secs. A new age group record.
Tracey Evans 5hrs 15mins 12 secs.
Llantysilio Mountain Fell Race.
The fine weather continued and welcomed a 104 strong field of athletes to Saturday's race with 6.2 miles and 2400ft of ascent, which was the 3rd counter in the
2010 W.F.R.A North Wales Fell Race series.
Making the journey were Barry Jackson, Andrea Vaughan and Ifan Richards. Ifan romped the course in 00:51:17 to cross the line first and to take overall
victory. Next in for Meirionnydd was Andrea Vaughan in 59th position and a excellent second female in the F40 category (time not known yet).
Next for Meirionnydd with a strong run was Barry Jackson crossing in 97th and taking the victory in the M70 category in a time of 1:29:04.
22/04/10. The Wednesday training runs
The Wednesday training runs continue to be well attended on the recent beautiful spring evenings. Here is the group about to set off from Llanfachreth

21/04/10. Mynydd Mawr Fell Race.
Still fresh after his Moelwyn Race Hefin Jones was the first club member home in the Mynydd Mawr Fell Race on Tuesday evening, he was followed in by Dave Whittey
and Graeme Stringer.
19/04/10. Ras y Moelwyn.
Excellent results for MRC.
The first of the "hot weather races", came with a bang at saturdays Moelwyn Three Peaks race with temperatures of 19 degrees + being hit.
The race which was 10.5 miles and 2900ft was the first round of the Welsh Athletics Mountain Running Championships.
First over the line was Eryri's Welsh international and 2008 winner Richard Roberts in a time of 1:19:20.
First for Meirionnydd and an excellent 2nd overall was Ifan Richards in a time of 1:26:58, again winning this seasons epic battle with Eryri's
Martin Cliffe who came in third in 1:27:45.
Next in for Meirionnydd was new member Hefin Jones of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Competing in his first fell race he ran an amazing race to finish
in a superb 15th overall in a time of 1:34.
07/04/10. The Corndon 3 Peaks Race.
Ifan Richards made the journey to the village of Priestweston on the Welsh border for The Corndon 3 Peaks race, 5.5 miles and 2000ft of ascent.
The race was the second round of the WFRA North Wales series and also the first round of the WFRA Welsh open series. The race attracted some stiff
competition from South Wales.
The race was won in a amazing time by in-form Welsh international Tim Davies in a course record time of 39:48.
Ifan produced a kamikase final descent and produced the overtaking move of the day. Rapidly closing down on Martin Shaw of Black Mountains, also Welsh
international, Martin slowed down for a cattle grid, while Ifan just hurdled the 8ft obstacle and snatched 4th overall with 600mtrs remaining to keep a
leading position in the WFRA N/wales series.

13/03/10. Marathon Challenge.
Tony Hodgson has issued a challenge to all club members to try and beat his club record Marathon time of 3hrs 9mins 39secs set at London in 2006.
He will present a bottle of bubbly to the successful runner.
08/03/10. Farndon 10k.
Three members of the club travelled to Farndon to take part in the 10k race. The weather was perfect for a fast race with 477 entries.
The first club member home was Tom Roberts in an excellent time of 36:20 (another club record) in tenth position overall, he was followed home by Frankie Vaughan
who, despite carrying an injury, finished in 46:09. Veteran Barrie Jackson finished in 57:17 coming in first in the male 70 age group.
07/03.10. MEIRIONNYDD SCOOP SILVERWARE.
Perfect conditions greeted athletes at today's 3rd round of the Cerist Triathlon Winter Aquathlon Series.
Taking overall victory in the event and relay category were Ifan Richards and Donna Cartwright of Dolgellau in a time of 23:19.
Donna completing the 400m swim in a time of 6min 38 sec including transition.
Showing a return to form in road running Ifan then completed the accurate BTF measured 5k run in a time of 16min 41 secs,
17 seconds shy of his 16min 24sec PB and club record.
Also representing Meirionnydd were Huw Brassington and his girlfriend Ffion Griffiths. With Huw out of running with injury Ffion only had 4 days notice that she would be competing. Huw was 3rd overall in the 400m swim with a time of 5min 36 sec
and Ffion crossing the line in a time of 26min 29sec placing them 5th in the relay category and 39th overall.
AGM.
A very successful and well-attended AGM took place at The Ship on Thursday.
In the committee elections Pete Nicholls and Gareth Roberts stood down as Secretary and Vice-chair respectively, Kevin Jones and Sue Thomas were then elected to
fill these positions.
The annual awards were presented as follows:-
Male Athlete of the Year (The Billy Trophy) - Ifan Richards.
Female Athlete of the Year (The Nanny Trophy) - Andrea Vaughan.
Junior Athlete of the Year (The Kid Trophy) - Alex Lanz.
Volunteer of the Year (The Goatherd Trophy) - Wendy Riches.
The Sheilagh Vaughan Trophy for beginner of the year - Leanne Jones.
The Runners Runner of the Year - Pete Nicholls.

7/02/10. Nick Beer 10k.
Barrie Jackson flew the flag for MRC at the Nick Beer 10k at Llandudno on 7th Feb, finishing 3rd in the male 70+ category in a time of 54m 31 secs.
Alex Lanz selected - North Wales U/15 boys in the British Intercounties Championships in Birmingham.
Alex Lanz has been chosen to run for North Wales U/15 boys in the British Intercounties Championships in Birmingham next month.
He is the only Meirionnydd RC athlete selected on this occasion although Iwan Jones (Sioned's brother), who runs for Coventry Godiva, has been selected in the
Senior Men.

Eryri Harriers had five athletes placed in the final top 10, with MRC. having four.
Eryri runner Iwan Morton was first home in a time of 51.55mins and team-mate Andrea Rowlands was first lady in a time of 1hr 00.56mins.
The large MRC contingent were led home by Ifan Richards in second place overall in a time of 53.46mins, followed by Tom Roberts, 4th in a time of 55.52mins,
Adam Preston, 5th in a time of 56.11mins & Kevin Jones, 9th in a time 57.49mins. Mark Atherton was the 5th Meirionnydd finisher in a time of 59.24mins before
the Bro Dysynni duo of Dylan & Tom Jones with times of 1.00.08mins & 1hr 02.10mins.
Tony Hodgson was next MRC runner home as he claimed victory in the Male Over-60 category in a time of 1hr 04.34mins.
The 1st MRC lady was Juliet Edwards in a time of 1hr 13.05mins, then 5 further MRC athletes, Amanda Wilde finishing in 1hr 16.54mins, Alison Price in 1hr 20.18mins,
Nich Bradley in 1hr 21.10mins, Janet Preston in 1hr 24.07mins and Ricky Francis in 1hr 28.47mins.
The Club records spreadsheet has been updated, this shows that 4 age-group records were broken. Ifan Richards set a new overall and senior men's record,
Kevin Jones set a new men's over 40's record, Juliet Edwards set a new ladies over 40's record and Tony Hodgson set a new men's over 60's record.

8/2/10. Titterstone Clee short fell race & Long Mynd Valleys fell race
Two firsts in one weekend for Kate Bailey.
Congratulations to Kate who came in as first senior lady in the Titterstone Clee short fell race (2.5/750') on Saturday and again on Sunday in the Long Mynd
Valleys fell race (11/4500').
Twin Piers 10k.
