09/12/10. Welsh Inter-Regional and Masters cross country champs.
Five Meirionnydd runners picked to represent North Wales. Ifan Richards, Tomos Roberts, Kevin Jones, Andrea Vaughan and Alex Lanz have all been picked to run for North Wales this coming weekend at Builth Wells in the Welsh Inter-Regional and Masters cross country champs. However the event was then cancelled!

04/11/10. Cross-Country League.
Another storming performance at Wrexham saw both men's and women's teams consolidating their positions. Our men's team came first in Division 2 on the day and now lead the Division with 618 points, ahead of Oswestry Olympians AAC who have 872 points. This score would put us 3rd in Division 1. The Ladies came 4th on the day and are now 6th overall. Alex Lanz and Jamie Evans came 8th and 9th in the U17 race.

23/11/10. Cannock Rotary 10K.
Tom Roberts competed in the first ever running of this event on Sunday. It was a very hard undulating course. Tom finished sixth overall in a time of 37:12.

13/11/10. Rhobell Fawr.
For the first time in quite a few years fine weather greeted the 68 competitors in the Rhobell Fawr Race. Eryri claimed the first two places with Richard Roberts winning in 49mins 44secs, followed by Matthew Roberts in 51mins 23secs. He was closely followed by Ifan Richards, first MRC runner home and setting a new club record in 51mins 29secs.
In the Ladies race Anna Bartlett of Shrewsbury club was first in 59mins 1sec, setting a new O40 record. She was followed by 2 Aberystwyth AC runners, Phoebe Webster in 63mins 7secs and Louise Barker in 64mins 35secs. Second for Meirionnydd was Adam Preston in 56mins 58secs, followed by Kevin Jones in 59mins 38secs who set a new O40 club record. Tony Hodgson was first in the O60 category in 67mins 38secs and another club age-group record. Pete Nicholls gained a PB in 72mins 31secs, he was followed by John D Smith in 75mins 23secs, Kevin Evans in 78mins 18secs and Nich Bradley in 80mins 3secs. Estelle Patrick was first Meirionnydd lady, home in 84mins 21secs, followed by Jan Preston in 85mins 50secs and Margaret Roberts in 89mins 28secs.
The Junior race was won by Katie Bailey in 22mins 15secs.

10/11/10. Clwydian Hills Fell Race.
A lovely day for a 10mile, 3,100ft fell race.
Ifan Richards was the first member to finish, in 5th overall position in a time of 75mins 12secs.
He was followed by Adam Preston in 89mins 38secs with Kevin Jones 1 secs behind him. Frankie and Andrea Vaughan crossed the line together in 110mins 3secs.

Ifan's 5th position was enough to secure overall victory and senior men's victory in the WFRA North Wales fell running championship, after a season of consistently high placed finishes.

08/11/10. Abergele 5.
Gaenor Smith was the first club member home in a time of 42mins 29secs, she was followed by Malcolm Taylor in 45mins 44secs (shaving a few seconds of his club age-group record) and Barrie Jackson in 48mins 3secs.

04/11/10. Cross-Country League.
After a fine performance at Bangor our men's team now leads Division 2 with 466 points, followed by Oswestry and Prestatyn, both on 604 points. The ladies are currently 7th in Division 2 while Alex Lanz came 4th in the U17 race.

02/11/10. Snowdonia Marathon.
Congratulations to Glyn Rowlands for cracking the 4 hour barrier in Saturdays race. Glyn finished in 3hrs 59mins 19secs which is a new age-group record for the club.

26/10/10. Coed y Brenin Duathlon.
Three club members took part in this event, which involves a 5km run followed by a 20km mountain bike ride followed by another 5km run. Ifan Richards came in 4th overall in a combined time of 1hr 43mins 07 secs. Tom Roberts was 12th in a time of 1hr 57mins 01secs. Tony Hodgson won the over 60's category in a time of 2hrs 13mins 32secs.

24/10/10. ISTANBUL RACES.
Tom Roberts, in excellent form, was the first British runner home in the 15k race, in 26th place (out of nearly 2,000 finishers) in a time of 56mins 42secs. Nich Bradley also finished well up the field, in 375th position in a time of 1hr 15mins 2secs.
In the Marathon Juliet Edwards came home in 4hrs 9mins 7secs, 54th lady out of 234 finishers. Another fine performance as she was struck down by Turkish Tummy before the race.
Also in Istanbul that weekend, Dai Rice was performing in the World Coastal Rowing Championships, coming home 4th in his class.

Cardiff (not quite) Half Marathon.
Closer to home 5 club members took part at Cardiff. Sandra Williams was first home in 1hr 51mins 19secs, closely followed by Jan and Adam Preston, both suffering from a bug, in 1hr 51mins 52secs. Jacqueline and Haydn Fowler continued their half marathon series, Jacqueline finishing in 2hrs 8mins 50secs and Haydn in 2hrs 21mins 36secs.

Seven Bridges 10k, Shrewsbury.
Tom Roberts had an excellent run on a twisting course at the Seven Bridges 10k in Shrewsbury. He finished 6th overall in a time of 36mins 42secs, only 22secs outside his club record.

Langdale Half Marathon, Lake district.
Barry Jackson slipped away to the Lake District to run the Langdale Half Marathon (a very challenging course I am told) and finished in another good time of 2hrs 17mins 40secs.

Bristol & Nottingham Half Marathons.
Jacqeline and Haydn Fowler also have been quietly knocking off the half marathons. At Bristol Jacqueline finished in 2hrs 8mins 52secs and Haydn in 2hrs 25mins 19secs .
At Nottingham Jacqueline finished in 2hrs 11mins and Haydn in 2hrs 27mins 29secs.

14/10/10. Anglesey Marathon.
Sandra Williams ran the Anglesey Marathon and completed the course in 4hrs 14mins 16secs. This is a new club age-group record. Well done Sandra and don't hide your light under a bushell!

North Wales Cross-Country League Division 2.
The MRC teams put in strong performances in the first event at Colwyn Bay. The Mens Team finished in 2nd position with 227 points just behind Oswestry Olympians with 208 points and well ahead of 3rd placed Prestatyn RC with 440 points. This score would have put MRC in 4th position in Division 1.
The Ladies Team gained 6th place with 151 points. This is also going to be a strongly contested league as the first 3 teams of Division 2 would have been in the top 5 of Division 1!
The finishing positions were as follows.
Mens Team.
Ifan Richards 24th, Darren Cole 28th, Tom Roberts 37th, Hefin Jones 39th, Kevin Jones 40th, Adam Preston 59th, Pete Nicholls 136th, Frankie Vaughan 149th, Kevin Evans 156th.
Ladies Team.
Andrea Vaughan 36th, Bethan Johnson 51st, Jude Cole 64th, Jan Preston 80th.
Juniors.
Alex Lanz came home in 5th place in the U17 race just 36secs behind the winner.

12/10/10. Aberystwyth Twin Peaks.
Four members took part in Sunday's race and came away with the men's team prize. Tom Roberts was 5th overall in 49mins 15secs, he was followed by Kevin Jones in 54mins 44secs (2nd O/40), Tony Hodgson in 59mins 11secs (1st O/60)and Glyn Rowlands in 62mins 21secs. Tom and Kevin had both run in the Cross-Country the day before so these were excellent performances.

04/10/10. Arenig Fell Race.
Ifan Richards raced the Arenig Fawr fell race on Sunday after deciding to sit out Pen10 on Saturday to put in a performance needed to re-secure the lead in the WFRA N.Wales series. The race was 7 mile with 2000ft and the weather was challenging to say the least with torential rain and high summit winds and fog. Ifan was 6th reaching the summit but again his strong descent was his get out of jail card, and crossed the line in a strong 2nd place in a time of 01:00:24. this performance has put him back in the lead with one race to go.

02/10/10. Penmaenpool 10.
Much better conditions than the last 2 years greeted the 67 competitors in the Pen 10 on Saturday. The full results are now available. click here for details.
Tom Kenderdine of Halesowen AC was the overall winner, setting a new M35 record of 56mins 19secs. He was followed home by Peter Middleton of Shrewsbury AC in 57mins 48secs and Phil Burden (unattached) in 1hr 12secs. Phoebe Webster of Aberystwyth AC was first lady in 1hr 4mins 13secs, followed by Alison Lavender of Oswestry Olympians in 1hr 5mins 45secs and Louise Barker, also of Aberystwyth AC, in 1hr 10mins 14secs. Anita Worthington of Aberystwyth AC set a new W55 record of 1hr 14mins 37secs.
Tom Roberts was the first Meirionnydd member home, in 5th overall position, in 1hr 1min 20secs, a new club record. Bethan Johnson was first Meirionnydd Lady home, in 1hr 22mins 29secs, another club record. Three other new club records were set. Adam Preston in 1hr 5mins 52 secs for M35, Kevin Jones in 1hr 3mins 32secs for M45 and Dai Rice in 1hr 32mins 28secs for M60. Click here for photos.

26/09/10. Dyfi 8.
Four members made the short journey to Tan y Coed for the Dyfi 8. Ifan Richards came home second overall in a time of 51mins 44 secs, he was followed in 4th overall position by Huw Brassington in 55mins 03secs. Kevin Evans was next in 1hr 10mins 04secs, then Dai Rice in 1hr 15mins 47secs.

21/09/10. British and Irish Junior Fell Running U16 Championships, Wicklow Mountains, Ireland.

Congratulations to Alex for coming home as first Welsh runner, 8th overall, in the British and Irish Junior Fell Running U16 Championships held in the Wicklow Mountains near Dublin. Alex finished the 5.6 km course in 25mins 47secs.

Bala Triathlon.
Triathlon success for club members. Congratulations to "Team Trailworks", (Ifan Richards, Tom Roberts and Huw Brassington) for coming second in the relay event in the recent Bala Triathlon.

07/09/10. Caernarfon 10k.
Five club members took part in the Caernarfon 10k on Sunday. Tom Roberts was just outside his club record in a time of 36mins 49secs. He was followed by Dave Seabourne in 43mins 28secs, Dai Rice, in his first race for the club, in 54mins 58secs, Malcolm Taylor, coming in first in the 65 age group, in 57mins 56secs and Barrie Jackson in 62mins 51secs.

30/08/10. Ellesmere 10k.
Two club members travelled to Ellesmere for Sunday's race. Malcolm Taylor took the honours, finishing in 55mins 7secs(3rd in the 65 age group), followed by Barrie Jackson in 58mins 30secs.(1st in the 70 age group). Well done both!

Cnicht fell race.
Ifan Richards kept up his excellent form coming 3rd in 37mins 15secs. Tom Roberts was not far behind in 12th place in a time of 43mins 54secs. Juliet Edwards came in 2nd in the ladies 40 age group in 58 mins 42secs followed by Kevin Evans in 59mins 25secs.

25/08/10. Tryfan Downhill Dash.
Ifan Richards took part in this 1km 680mtr descent "plummet" on Tuesday and came home first in a time of 8mins 30secs. This is 30 seconds off Mike Blake's 1992 record, but is the 4th fastest time in the race's 20yr history.

23/09/10. Race the Train Tywyn.
A total of 13 club members took part in the various Race the Train events on Saturday. Recent rain had made the courses very slippery and made some lovely deep mud.
Alex Lanz won the Dolgoch Challenge 5.5mile race in impressive style in 32mins 29secs, with a margin of over 3 minutes on the second placed runner, not just beating the train but marmelising it! Alex has also been chosen by Welsh Athletics to run in a fell race in Ireland.
In the 10k Quarry Challenge Tom Roberts had an excellent run, coming home in 6th position, beating the train, in a time of 40mins 13secs. He was followed by Jan Preston in 63mins 13secs, Jacqueline Fowler in 71mins 14 secs and Haydn Fowler in 72mins 12 secs.
In the 14mile Rotary Challenge Adam Preston also beat the train in a great time of 1hr 40mins 10secs, knocking 11mins off his time from last year. He was followed by Ricky Francis in 1hr 52mins 50secs, Dave Seabourne in 1hr 56mins 47secs, John Smith in 1hr 58mins 44secs, Glyn Rowlands in 1hr 59mins 35secs, Sandra Williams in 2hrs 23mins 16secs, Alison Price in 2hrs 26mins 02secs, Vic Gretton in 2hrs 37mins 03secs and Chris Owen in 3hrs 10mins 06secs.

02/08/10. Dolgellau 5.
An excellent club turnout saw 22 members finish the race, I have not received the full results yet but click here for MRC members times.
Brendan Rothery was the winner in a time of 27mins 41 secs, followed by Iwan Jones in 28mins 27 secs. Congratulations to Tom Roberts who was 3rd overall in 30mins 02 secs, Judith Cole who was second lady in 38mins 24 secs and Bethan Johnson who was third lady in 39mins 40 secs.

30/07/10. Ras Hendre Wallog.
Four club members travelled to Abergynolwyn on Thursday evening for this race. Ifan Richards was the overall winner in a time of 16mins 32 secs, beating Dylan Jones of Bro Dysynni into second place. Next for Meirionnydd was John Smith in 22mins 21secs, closely followed by his medical support team of Nich Bradley in 22mins 43secs and Juliet Edwards, first lady, in 22mins 55secs.

26/07/10. Ras y Wyddfa, Snowdon International Race.
A great day out for runners and supporters despite the weather. The conditions were warm, misty and drizzly in Llanberis which got progressively colder, windier and wetter higher up the mountain. Six club members took part in the race.
Ifan Richards, running in his Wales shirt (and shorts, shoes etc), stormed home in 18th position in a time of 1hr 16mins 33secs, followed by Tom Roberts in 1hr 24mins 27secs, Adam Preston in 1hr 28mins 23secs, Pete Nicholls in 1hr 52mins 33secs, John Smith in 1hr 53mins 11secs and Kevin Evans in 2hrs 5mins 24secs.
Alex Lanz won the junior race in fine style, finishing in 22mins 16secs.
The many supporters deserve credit for walking up the mountain and standing around in very unpleasant conditions while cheering on the runners, although rumour has it that alcohol was taken to keep the chills away.
We now have a second competitor in the "Navigator of the Year" competition, as Gaenor Smith managed to descend by the wrong path and had to get a bus back from Pen y Pass to Llanberis.

23/07/2010. Caernarfon 5k.
Two new club age-category records and 2 PB's set at the Caernarfon 5k.
A total of 227 took part in the Race the Train at Caernarfon on Wednesday evening including five members of the club. First home in sixth position overall was Tom Roberts in a P.B. 16:25, just one second off the club record. Second home for the club was Ricky Francis in a time of 18:28, also a P.B. Third was Tony Hodgson in 18:42, first in his age category (60+) and setting a new club age-category record. He was followed by Malcolm Taylor in 25:55, another club age-category record (65+). The final club member home was Krystyna Somkonicz in 36:06.

12/07/2010. Newtown 5k.
Five Club runners took part in the Newtown 5k on Friday. Ifan Richards was 3rd overall in 17mins 23secs, closely followed by Tom Roberts in 17mins 32secs. Gaenor Smith finished in 25mins 21secs, Emma Davies in 26mins 22secs and Malcolm Taylor in 29mins 32secs.

11/07/2010. Ras Foel Gocyn.
Five club members took part in the Ras Foel Gocyn at Bryncrug on Saturday.
Ifan Richards was the overall winner in a time of 26mins 27secs, beating Sam Smith of Eryri into second place. Tom Roberts was 4th in 29mins 00 secs just beating Dylan Jones of Bro Dysynni. Ricky Francis was the next MRC runner home in 34mins 17secs, followed by Kevin Evans in 39mins 14secs and Barrie Jackson in 46mins 34secs.

04/07/2010. Llyn Alwen Trail Race.
Eight members travelled to the wet and windy Hiraethog Moors for the Llyn Alwen Race over 11km of forest roads and tracks.
Ifan Richards was overall winner, just outside the course record in 40m 36secs, Kevin Jones was 8th overall in 43m 14secs. They were followed by Adam Preston in 44m 14secs, Dave Whittey in 49m 45secs, Dave Seabourne in 52m 23secs, John Smith in 54m 35secs, Juliet Edwards in 58m 52secs and Barry Jackson winning the over 70's race in 59m 01secs.

Tuesday Night Series.
Congratulations to Ifan Richards for winning the final race of the tuesday night series at Llanberis and coming second in the table.

26/06/10. Records smashed at the Tyn y Groes Hill Race.
Twelve club runners took part in today's very hot Tyn y Groes summer event.
MRC claimed the first 4 places with Ifan Richards coming in first, knocking 44secs off the previous course record in a time of 15mins 57secs followed by Tom Roberts in 17mins 41 secs, Adam Preston in 17mins 56secs and Tony Hodgson in 20mins 09 secs, a new 60's age-group record. Graeme Stringer also set a new age-group record for the 40's of 20mins 33secs as did Danny Evans aged 14 with with 30mins 30secs and Barrie Jackson for the 70's with 31mins 04 secs.
Jan Preston was first lady in a time of 27mins 31secs.

22/06/10. Moel Hebog Fell Race.
Ifan Richards continued his winning form at Beddgelert on Saturday coming home first in the Moel Hebog Race. He reached the summit first with a 35 second gap over the chasing group but a strong descent through the roughest terrain he's encountered to date, he took overall victory with a margin of over 3 minutes to cross the line in a time 00:49:16.

13/10/06. Ifan selected for Welsh Team.
Ifan Richards has been selected to run for Wales in the Snowdon International Race on July 24th!!!.

Newtown Carnival 5k.
Ifan won the Newtown Carnival 5k on Saturday in a time of 17mins 19secs, he was followed home by Malcolm Taylor in a time of 28mins 20secs coming second in the 65 category.
Heledd Richards (Ifan's daughter) tackled the 1 mile course in a time of 0:10:21 and claimed 3rd in the under 6 category!

10/06/10. Park Hall 5k, Oswestry.
Malcolm Taylor represented the club at the Park Hall 5k at Oswestry on Wednesday, finishing in 28m20secs.

MRC Runners Y Garn Tuesday Night series.

Two club members went to Rhyd Ddu for the Aran fell race only to find that the race was up and down Y Garn instead.
Humid and showery conditions greeted 50 or so athletes for this the 7th round of the North Wales Tuesday night fell series.
This did not upset Ifan Richards who led all the way. Ifan must have been travelling at close to the speed of light when Gwynfor James took this photo as his club shirt has undergone a red shift! While Nich was merely supersonic.

06/06/10. Abersoch 10k.
Two club members ran in Saturday's Abersoch 10k.
Kevin Jones finished in an excellent 8th overall position, setting a new club age-group record of 37m 33 secs, Graeme Stringer followed him home in 44m 20secs.

30/05/10. Ras y Gader.
Excellent performances were put in by club members in some very iffy weather.
14 members completed the race, which in itself is a record. Ifan Richards was second overall in a new club record time of 01:31:09, followed by Tom Roberts in 01:40:04 and Adam Preston in 01:43:30. Tom and Adam also broke the previous club record. Dave Whittey set a new over 50's club record of 01:49:49. Tony Hodgson was the first over-60 home and set a new over 60's club record of 01:52:02.

Rhyl Sun Centre 5k.
Five members of the club took part in the Sun Centre 5k.
First club runner home was Tom Roberts in a time of 17:30, second was Kevin Jones in a time of 18:01, just four seconds behind Kevin was Alex Lanz in 18:05. Barrie Jackson was next in 25:40 with the final runner for Meirionnydd and making his debut for the club was Malcolm Taylor in a time of 28:17.
This race was the North Wales 5K championship. Alex, Tom, Kevin and Malcolm all finished third in their age groups. Barrie was fourth in his age group.
Kevin, Barrie and Malcolm all set new club age-group records.
Well done to all the club runners.

23/05/10. British Intercounties Fell Running Championships.
The hottest day of the year greeted the 255 athletes to today's race. Attracting the elite from English, Scottish and Welsh counties the competiton was of a very high level.
The event was 9.6 miles with a tough 3276ft of ascent with a race start temperature recorded at 28 degrees celcius.
Ifan Richards crossed the line battling severe right calf cramp in 66th position in a good time for the distance in 1:32:40.
North Wales claimed top 3 out of all the UK counties. Ifan also kept his lead in the WFRA North Wales series.

18/05/10. Moel Eilio.
Four Meirionnydd athletes travelled to Llanberis for the classic Moel Eilio fell race. Measuring at 8 miles and 3200ft of ascent. Weather conditions were excellent and a light breeze to cool everyone down after a beast of a first climb.
First for Meirionnydd was Ifan Richards claiming yet another impressive 2nd overall out of the 75 starters completing the course in a time of 1:09:12.
Second in for Meirionnydd in 40th and claiming a excellent victory in the F40 category was Andrea Vaughan in a time of 1:32:42.
Claiming 2nd in the F40 category with a strong run was Juliet Edwards in 52nd with a time of 1:38:20 just winning the battle of the doctors by 9 seconds as Nick Bradley followed in 53rd in a time of 1:38:29.

Chester half-marathon.
Congratulations to Gaenor Smith for setting a 1/2 Marathon club record for senior ladies with 1hr 54mins 38secs and to Chris Owen for completing in 2hrs 28mins 13secs.

13/05/10. Moel y Gest , tuesday night series.
70 runners turned up for the 5th round of the very popular tuesday evening north wales fell race series. The venue was Moel Y Gest at Porthmadog, a classic course of 4 miles and 1200ft.
First over the line for Meirionnydd was Ifan Richards in 2nd place in a time of 00:31:12 knocking 5 minutes off his time for last year. Next was Hefin Jones crossing 11th in 00:35:41, Dave Whittey followed in 22nd in 00:37:24. Graeme Stringer was next in 34th in 00:41:16, Ashley Charlwood followed in 48th in 00:43:56. Nich Bradley finished in 68th but unfortunately he was one of 5 runners who missed part of the course.

MRC Runners - Christleton 5k.

11/05/10. Christleton 5k.
Two members of the club went to Christleton for the 5k on Friday evening. This was a very fast flat course.
In a high class field of over 220 first home for the club in a PB was Tom Roberts in a time of 17:14. Graeme Stringer also ran an excellent race in a time of 20:40.

Newtown 10k.
Two club members took part in the Newtown 10k Road Race on 2nd May. First home was Ricky Francis in a time of 42.38mins. He was followed by Graeme Stringer in a time of 44.36mins.

02/05/10. Red Kite Challenge.
The U.K and Welsh trail running championships held at Nant y Arian Forest trail centre.
In the juniors race Alex Lanz ran an excellent race to take the gold medal as Welsh trail running Champion at U17 level, an excellent display of his growing talent.
In the senior race 124 athletes battled it out for U.K and Welsh honours over the 11.2 mile course with 2530ft of ascent.
It was indeed the Welsh Athletes that dominated the event taking the top 6 places. The race was won in a very impressive and new course record time by Tim Davies of Maldwyn Harriers in 1:10:55 showing his growing domination in trail and fell running.
First for Meirionnydd in a excellent 6th overall was Ifan Richards, covering the course in a time of 1:17:28.
Tom Roberts was next for Meirionnydd with a strong performance over the distance in time of 1:23:20 to cross the line in 21st position.
John D Smith was next for Meirionnydd, after a break from racing, ran in 89th position in a time of 1:47:52 claiming Welsh Champs Gold in the M60 category.
Last for Meirionnydd it was good to see Victor Gretton coming home in a time of 2:15:32 in a great effort.

25/04/10. London Marathon.
Adam Preston 3hrs 8mins 55secs. A new club record and winning Tony's challenge prize!
Tony Hodgson 3 hrs 16mins 48secs. A new age group record.
Jan Preston 4hrs 29mins 16secs. A new age group record.
Tracey Evans 5hrs 15mins 12 secs.

Llantysilio Mountain Fell Race.
The fine weather continued and welcomed a 104 strong field of athletes to Saturday's race with 6.2 miles and 2400ft of ascent, which was the 3rd counter in the 2010 W.F.R.A North Wales Fell Race series.
Making the journey were Barry Jackson, Andrea Vaughan and Ifan Richards. Ifan romped the course in 00:51:17 to cross the line first and to take overall victory. Next in for Meirionnydd was Andrea Vaughan in 59th position and a excellent second female in the F40 category (time not known yet).
Next for Meirionnydd with a strong run was Barry Jackson crossing in 97th and taking the victory in the M70 category in a time of 1:29:04.

22/04/10. The Wednesday training runs
The Wednesday training runs continue to be well attended on the recent beautiful spring evenings. Here is the group about to set off from Llanfachreth School on 21st April.

21/04/10. Mynydd Mawr Fell Race.
Still fresh after his Moelwyn Race Hefin Jones was the first club member home in the Mynydd Mawr Fell Race on Tuesday evening, he was followed in by Dave Whittey and Graeme Stringer.

19/04/10. Ras y Moelwyn.
Excellent results for MRC.
The first of the "hot weather races", came with a bang at saturdays Moelwyn Three Peaks race with temperatures of 19 degrees + being hit.
The race which was 10.5 miles and 2900ft was the first round of the Welsh Athletics Mountain Running Championships.
First over the line was Eryri's Welsh international and 2008 winner Richard Roberts in a time of 1:19:20.
First for Meirionnydd and an excellent 2nd overall was Ifan Richards in a time of 1:26:58, again winning this seasons epic battle with Eryri's Martin Cliffe who came in third in 1:27:45.
Next in for Meirionnydd was new member Hefin Jones of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Competing in his first fell race he ran an amazing race to finish in a superb 15th overall in a time of 1:34.

07/04/10. The Corndon 3 Peaks Race.
Ifan Richards made the journey to the village of Priestweston on the Welsh border for The Corndon 3 Peaks race, 5.5 miles and 2000ft of ascent.
The race was the second round of the WFRA North Wales series and also the first round of the WFRA Welsh open series. The race attracted some stiff competition from South Wales.
The race was won in a amazing time by in-form Welsh international Tim Davies in a course record time of 39:48.
Ifan produced a kamikase final descent and produced the overtaking move of the day. Rapidly closing down on Martin Shaw of Black Mountains, also Welsh international, Martin slowed down for a cattle grid, while Ifan just hurdled the 8ft obstacle and snatched 4th overall with 600mtrs remaining to keep a leading position in the WFRA N/wales series.

MRC Runners - Newtown Chocaholics 5k.

04/04/10. Newtown Chocaholics 5k.
Seven members of the club went to Newtown to run the 5k. First home was Ifan Richards (3rd overall) in a time of 17:13. He was closely followed by Tom Roberts (4th overall and winning 1st. senior male) in a time of 17:25. Alex Lanz was next home in a time of 17:57 claiming 1st U/20. Next was Kevin Jones in 18:27 followed by David Seabourne 20:46 and Graeme Stringer 21:45. Gwion Roberts, running in his first race for Meirionnydd, finished in 24:40.
It was good to see three Meirionnydd runners receiving awards at the end.
Alex, Kevin and Dave each set a new club record for their age group.

MRC Runners - Cerist Aquathlon.

21/03/10. Cerist Aquathlon.
The Pairing of Ifan Richards and Donna Cartwright was again succesful in the final race of Cerist Triathlon Aquathlon series on sunday. Donna completing her 400mtr swim in 6min 26sec inc transition giving her 6th fastest swim time and Ifan(after yesterday's Aran race) clocking 16min 40sec for the 5k run distance, which gave them finishing time of 23min 06sec and overall win in the race and relay cat.

Aran Race and Winter Race Series results are now online.
Ifan Richards came in 3rd overall to set a new club record of 1hr 40min 51secs and claim first place in the Winter Series.
wo other club records were set, Dave Whittey set a new mens over 50 time of 2hrs 2 mins 12secs and Tony Hodgson set a new men's over 60 time of 2hrs 5mins 15secs.

ifan 2012 WFRA & winter series

13/03/10. Marathon Challenge.
Tony Hodgson has issued a challenge to all club members to try and beat his club record Marathon time of 3hrs 9mins 39secs set at London in 2006.
He will present a bottle of bubbly to the successful runner.

08/03/10. Farndon 10k.
Three members of the club travelled to Farndon to take part in the 10k race. The weather was perfect for a fast race with 477 entries.
The first club member home was Tom Roberts in an excellent time of 36:20 (another club record) in tenth position overall, he was followed home by Frankie Vaughan who, despite carrying an injury, finished in 46:09. Veteran Barrie Jackson finished in 57:17 coming in first in the male 70 age group.

07/03.10. MEIRIONNYDD SCOOP SILVERWARE.
Perfect conditions greeted athletes at today's 3rd round of the Cerist Triathlon Winter Aquathlon Series.
Taking overall victory in the event and relay category were Ifan Richards and Donna Cartwright of Dolgellau in a time of 23:19.
Donna completing the 400m swim in a time of 6min 38 sec including transition.
Showing a return to form in road running Ifan then completed the accurate BTF measured 5k run in a time of 16min 41 secs, 17 seconds shy of his 16min 24sec PB and club record.
Also representing Meirionnydd were Huw Brassington and his girlfriend Ffion Griffiths. With Huw out of running with injury Ffion only had 4 days notice that she would be competing. Huw was 3rd overall in the 400m swim with a time of 5min 36 sec and Ffion crossing the line in a time of 26min 29sec placing them 5th in the relay category and 39th overall.

AGM.
A very successful and well-attended AGM took place at The Ship on Thursday.
In the committee elections Pete Nicholls and Gareth Roberts stood down as Secretary and Vice-chair respectively, Kevin Jones and Sue Thomas were then elected to fill these positions.
The annual awards were presented as follows:-
Male Athlete of the Year (The Billy Trophy) - Ifan Richards.
Female Athlete of the Year (The Nanny Trophy) - Andrea Vaughan.
Junior Athlete of the Year (The Kid Trophy) - Alex Lanz.
Volunteer of the Year (The Goatherd Trophy) - Wendy Riches.
The Sheilagh Vaughan Trophy for beginner of the year - Leanne Jones.
The Runners Runner of the Year - Pete Nicholls.

7/02/10. Nick Beer 10k.

Barrie Jackson flew the flag for MRC at the Nick Beer 10k at Llandudno on 7th Feb, finishing 3rd in the male 70+ category in a time of 54m 31 secs.

Alex Lanz selected - North Wales U/15 boys in the British Intercounties Championships in Birmingham.
Alex Lanz has been chosen to run for North Wales U/15 boys in the British Intercounties Championships in Birmingham next month.
He is the only Meirionnydd RC athlete selected on this occasion although Iwan Jones (Sioned's brother), who runs for Coventry Godiva, has been selected in the Senior Men.

13/02/10. Tarren Hendre.

Eryri Harriers had five athletes placed in the final top 10, with MRC. having four.
Eryri runner Iwan Morton was first home in a time of 51.55mins and team-mate Andrea Rowlands was first lady in a time of 1hr 00.56mins.
The large MRC contingent were led home by Ifan Richards in second place overall in a time of 53.46mins, followed by Tom Roberts, 4th in a time of 55.52mins, Adam Preston, 5th in a time of 56.11mins & Kevin Jones, 9th in a time 57.49mins. Mark Atherton was the 5th Meirionnydd finisher in a time of 59.24mins before the Bro Dysynni duo of Dylan & Tom Jones with times of 1.00.08mins & 1hr 02.10mins.
Tony Hodgson was next MRC runner home as he claimed victory in the Male Over-60 category in a time of 1hr 04.34mins.
The 1st MRC lady was Juliet Edwards in a time of 1hr 13.05mins, then 5 further MRC athletes, Amanda Wilde finishing in 1hr 16.54mins, Alison Price in 1hr 20.18mins, Nich Bradley in 1hr 21.10mins, Janet Preston in 1hr 24.07mins and Ricky Francis in 1hr 28.47mins.
The Club records spreadsheet has been updated, this shows that 4 age-group records were broken. Ifan Richards set a new overall and senior men's record, Kevin Jones set a new men's over 40's record, Juliet Edwards set a new ladies over 40's record and Tony Hodgson set a new men's over 60's record.

8/2/10. Titterstone Clee short fell race & Long Mynd Valleys fell race
Two firsts in one weekend for Kate Bailey.
Congratulations to Kate who came in as first senior lady in the Titterstone Clee short fell race (2.5/750') on Saturday and again on Sunday in the Long Mynd Valleys fell race (11/4500').

Rob Thomas represented the club in the recent Twin Piers 10k, finishing in 55m 50secs.

MRC Runners - Mini Menai 10k.

26/01/10. Menai Mini 10k.
Congratulations to Tom Roberts who knocked 10 secs off his own 10k Club Record with a time of 37.08 in the Menai Mini 10k on Sunday 24th.
